Pregnant and malaria in Chang Mai

If there is a risk it is very limited, and we do not recommend malaria for Chang Mai.

Immunizations to Thailand

In a month (beginning of September) I am going to Thailand for 2 weeks. We're unsure exactly where we are going, but may go to Chang Mai for a small trek.
We are also plannin to go to some of the islands as well. What injections / precautions do I need to take beofre I go, and how far in advance of travel do I need to take them?

If you follow this link:

you will find all the info you ask about and a map of malaria in Thailand at the bottom of the page.

Thailand and Borneo

We are travelling to Thailand and Borneo in November. Our itinerary in Thailand is not yet set, but we will either visit the south islands or go up towards Chang Mai.
I have been before and not needed to take maleria tablets, so im not worried about Thailand.
My travel operator did recommend taking Malarone when we go to Borneo. Specifically we are going to be in Brunei for a day or 2 and then in Kota Kinabalu for a week. We may do some trekking etc...
Can you tell me if we need to take maleria tablets for this leg of the journey

I agree that you do not need malaria tablets in Thailand, but you do in Sabah and Malarone is a good choice.

If you follow this link:

you will find a map of areas in Malaysia including Borneo where we recommend malaria tablets. The map can be moved and zoomed in and out so you can find your precise destinations.

Thailand for 2 months

We are going to Thailand in 2 months i was wondering what shots i really really had to get and how much this would cost, also how many days before the trip would i have to get shot, and is it possible to the Malaria in a injection and not tablet form coz the tablet gives you a illness while you are there

You will find our suggestions here:

http://www.traveldoctor.info/trip/result.1.151.2.html

malaria prophylaxis can only be gives as pills, but you need it few places in Thailand if at all.

concerning the immunizations, we usually do not recomment vaccination against japanese encephalitis outside the season (May to October).

Malaria in Thailand

Travelling to thailand for 16 days. Itinerary with tour includes Bangkok,Kanchanburi,Ayuthaya,Sukhothai,Lampang,Chang Mai,Chang Dao,Thaton, Chiang Rai and a three night stay on Koh Chang. Malaria prophylaxis for whole trip or just island stay?

The risk of malaria in Thailand is very low and we only recommend malaria prophylaxis to a few places. If you follow this link, you will see a map over risk areas in thailand whre we recommend malaria pills:

http://www.traveldoctor.info/trip/result.1.151.1.html

Malaria in Koh Chang is primarily on the eastern side, so if you stay (sleep) on the western side, malaria pills should not be necessary.

10 days in Thailand

I will be spending 10 days in thailand sho;rtly, 2/3 in bangkok and 7 in Ko Samui. What are the vaccinations I need and is there a malarial risk?

You need a vaccination against hepatitis A, but no malaria prophylaxis (the risk is very low).

Malaria around ChMae Hong Son

I am going to Thailand 20 days in August. I am going to Chiang Mai, to do some trekking.
I am goig to Mae Hong Son and Pai too, but i will stay in the city.Do you think its better to take malaria tablets?!

The area around Mae Hong Son is considered a risk areas if you sleep in villages in the hills and we suggest you take Malarone for this part of your travel. there is no or very little risk around Chang Mai and we do not recommend prophylaxis here.

Malaria in Thailand

My daughter (16yr) will be spending 6 months in Chonponburi which is in Surin province, Thailand approximately 65 miles North of the Cambodian border. We are getting mixed messages about the need for an antimalarial.
WHO calls it a limited risk area, CDC says take Malarone, and the American Field Service does not recommend antimalarials at all. What is your suggestion?

We regard eastern Thailand as a low risk area, and would not recommend prophylaxis.
Thailand has a network of village clinics capable of diagnosing and treatting malaria, far better than in neighboring countries.
We also consider the risk of malaria in this area much lower than the risk of serious adverse reaction to the malaria drugs, not matter which drug she chose.

Thailand towards Burma

My wife and seven year old son and six year old daughter are planning to head to an area fours hours north of Bangkok towards the Burma border for two weeks in late July. What precaution should we take for malaria.

We would recommend vaccination against infectious hepatitis to all of you.
The big question is malaria prophylaxis. Malaria is found close to the Burmese border and you are especially at risk if you are trekking and sleep in huts in villages. If this is the case we suggest you take malarone against malaria, if not, just use impregnated bed nets and repellents.

Thailand in 10 days

Me and my brother are travelling to thailand at the end of march and wish to know which vaccines to get and also do we have to take the anti malaria tablets.
We will be spending 3 days in bangkok and 7days in cheng mai in the hill tribes.

If you follow this link you get all the info you ask for:

10 days in Thailand

My boyfriend and I will be spending ten days in Thailand en route to Australia at the end of March 04. We will be spending 3 days in Bangkok staying in The Radisson Hotel and then a further 7 days in Pattaya. Can you pelase advise us as to what vaccinations we need to get.

We always recommend vaccination against hepatitis A and a combined diphteria/tetanus if your last immunization was more than ten years ago.
No malaria prophylaxis is needed to the destinations you mention or other places in southern Thailand.

Pregnancy and Thailand

we are planning a 3 weeks holliday in Thailand visiting Phuket and Bangkok and a short trip to Kwai.
I am pregnant in week 18 and my question is if there is any risk for the child from the travel, the vaccinations and the malaria tablets?

There is no risk from the travel. Pregnant women tolerate air travels quite well if you otherwise are healthy.
There should be no problems vaccinating you against hepatitis A, diphteria and tetanus, and you do not need any malaria tablets for the destinations you mention.
