Pneumovax

I am under 40 years old and normally healthy. I am going on a visit to Uganda and may visit an aids hospice. Should I have a pneumovax before I travel, not just for myself, but so that I dont contaminate the AIDS patients?
Or is it unnecessary.

Yes, it is not needed. AIDS patients do not have an increased risk of pneumococcal infections to my knowledge, and it is questionnable if a vaccine decrease your chance of being asymptomatic carrier of the bacteria.
