Polio, Botswana

Botswana has not experienced polio since 1991, but has just recently found an 8-year old boy from Ngamiland district with the infection.
The patient has poliovirus type 1, closely related to the type of polio virus currently circulating in Nigeria. Similar cases have been found in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d Ivoire, Ghana and Togo.
The patient has not been in Nigeria, and it is not clear how he was infected.
