The Chinese Ministry of Health has reported an additional three cases of suspected SARS including one death.
The patients are two laboratory technicians who worked at the Chinese National Institute of Virology in Beijing, a nurse who took care of one of the technicians and the mother of the nurse, who died of what is believed to be SARS.
Comment
The outbreak is most probably due to laboratory infection at the Chinese National Institute of Virology in Beijing, and the nurse and her mother are secondary cases.
If this is correct, the source of infection is known and contact can be traced and placed under surveillance.
Last year laboratory workers in Singapore and Taiwan, working with SARS virus was also infected without any secondary cases being reported.
