The government of Burkina Faso stated on Thu 13 May 2004 that 25 suspected cases of yellow fever had been reported in the southeastern city of Bobo-Dioulasso and towards the border with Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana. Four of the cases has been confirmed by the Pasteur Institute in Dakar, Senegal.
Comment
Yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes. Bobo Diolaso has a population of 400,000 people and with the vector present in the city more cases can be expected. There is no risk to travellers if the recommendation of vaccination against yellow fever is followed.
