There has been a rapid increase in the number of hepatitis A cases in Campania region, Italy (5.7 million people, main city Naples), and since March 2004 615 cases has been found.
The source of infection is not known but local seafood is suspected and a certain number is also infected from other patients.

Vaccination against hepatitis A is usually not recommended for Greece and Italy, but with the long-lasting protection by modern vaccines, it could be considered at elast for travellers to campania who want to have local seafood.
