Malaria increase in West Java

Malaria is increasing in the Province of West Java, and the authorities are recommending malaria prophylaxis in the districts of Sukabumi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya and Ciamis.

West Java is usually regarded as an area with low malaria risk and malaria prophylaxis is not usually recommended. However, this news indicate that the situation is changing and visitors to rural West Java and in particular to the districts mentioned should take prophylaxis. The news release do not mention whether it is P. vivax or P.falciparum malaria, but it is most probable P. vivax malaria.
