Japanese encephalitis, India

A major outbreak of japanese encephalitis has been reported from the state of Uttar Pradesh i northern India since the end of July.
So far more than 1,100 patients has been hospitalized, mainly children below 15 years.
Uttar Pradesh is bordering Nepal and there are indications that the infection has spread to southern Nepal.

Travellers to Uttar Pradesh and southern Nepal, staying in rural areas under conditions where prevention of mosquito bites are difficult, should discuss vaccination with their physician before travelling.
