H5N1 birdflu in an Indonesian family
26 May 2006

Birdflu has for the first time spread from more than one person to another, so called "second generation" transmission.
Seven members of one family have been infected and six died. The first patient was a 36 year old women, and it is not known how she was infected.
Preliminary analysis of the virus has not shown any new mutations, which should indicate and increased ability to be transmitted between humans. All isolates where sensitive to Tamiflu.

Comment
It is worrying that there is no poultry in the village where the family lived, because the six patients were infected by direct human to human transmission and this is the first time this is observed in such numbers.
There is no restrictions on travels to Indonesia because of birdflu.
