Polio has been found in a 2 year old girl from Harrouah in Ethiopia. The child had paralysis in both legs and contacted a physician in Djibuti. The Ethiopian authorities have started a vaccination campaign and intensified surveillance. Further typing of the virus is still in progress.

There has been two more confirmed cases of polio in Ethiopia since January 2008
(www.PolioEradication.org) and in both cases wild polio virus was identified and not the vaccine virus. The report shows that travellers to Ethiopia should make sure they are fully vaccinated against polio.
