New malaria cases from The Gambia

With the latest cases reported in Eurosurveillance and additional cases reported by ProMED from Sweden, Finland and Spain, the total number of reported cases has increased 64 with 3 deaths. None of the new cases took malaria prophylaxis.

Malaria is widespread in the Gambia and it is surprising that so few of the patients were advised to take malaria tablets to prevent malaria infection. It is important that travelers to countries with malaria are informed about the risk and how to prevent the risk when they buy their travel from the travel agency.
