Yellow fever, Brazil

One person has died from yellow fever in the Botucatu region, 226 km from Sao Paulo, and another person is in hospital suspected of yellow fever. Since the beginning of March four more cases has been admitted and one person has died from yellow fever. Other cities in the region also report cases. The authorities have started a vaccination campaign to control the infection. Source:

Yellow fever is endemic in monkeys in Brazil, and there is therefore always a risk that the infection spread from the animals to humans, who have not been vaccination. The outbreak underline that all travelers to Brazil should make sure they have a vaccination against yellow fever within the past ten years.
