Brazil (Sao Paolo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso)

Campinas (Sao Paolo State) has reported 1320 confirmed dengue fever cases this year. 80 people have been diagnosed with complicated dengue fever in Minas Gerais in 2010. 26 municipalities in Mato Grosso have now registered deaths due to complicated dengue fever in 2010. 


Ecuador (Galapagos)
A total of 32 dengue cases have been reported from San Cristobal Island and another 500 people have presented similar symptoms that are yet to be confirmed. In Santa Cruz, there are 27 cases.

Guatemala (Santa Rosa)
At least 2 people have died of DHF this weekend. 74 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever were recorded from Guatemala in 2009.

Malaysia (whole country) 
A total of 766 dengue fever cases with 2 deaths have been reported in the seven days from 9th may 2010.

Martinique 
35 to 45 people are infected with dengue fever every week.

USA (Florida) 
One case has been reported from key West.

Venezuela (Merida) 
Merida state has so far in 2010 reported 2500 suspected dengue cases. 

Viet Nam (An Giang Province)
More than 858 cases of dengue fever have been hospitalised with 3 fatalities since the beginning of May 2010. Most of them were in Long Xuyen City, Cho Moi, and Chau Thanh districts.

Comment 
Dengue fever continues to be the most common infection in travellers to dengue endemic areas. There is no vaccine and the only protection is precautions against mosquito bites during the day.
